Dunite-Forsterite

Dunite-Forsterite

Dunite-Forsterite is a plutonic rock of ultramafic composition and is mainly characterized by coarse grained texture. Its chemical classification is basic rock, having mainly magnesium bearing olivine (forsterite) as the principal mineral, with minor quantities of pyroxene. Dunite-Forsterite is used as a refractory material in steel and casting industries which has a very convenience price with respect to other alternative silica and magnesite-based refractory materials. Dunite is a byproduct of Soltan Abad Bichend mine from the beneficiation process of magnesite and is used in the following main applications: - Abrasives - Ceramic Filler - refractory raw material - Land filler and pH control Serpentinization has been barely developed, therefore the olivine content can reach the level of >70% and L.O.I remained low in the range of 10 to 12%.
